Bags, Boxes and Bottles: When Simple Product Packaging Becomes a Cultural Icon

What’s the difference between a hamburger packaged in a plain wrapper and one that’s been branded by a big brand? Mostly, it’s in the packaging. Companies like McDonald’s and Burger King have made billions of dollars from their hamburgers – a commodity product. Here’s how they, and others like them, did it. If you’re also trying to improve the packaging of your products, using Custom tamper evident labels and other attractive packaging materials could prove to be effective. You may also need to buy turntable wrapping equipment to improve the efficiency of your packaging processes.

Häagen Dazs

The ice cream giant sets itself apart from its competition using unassuming packaging – its ice cream lids are part of a holographic program that plays music when you download the Häagen Dazs app and point your phone’s camera at the lid. It’s incredible, and something you have to see to believe.

It’s fancy for sure, and maybe you can’t exactly replicate that, but these frozen yogurt cups are a good start.

Callegari

Callegari makes olive oil, but not just any old olive oil. The brand sets itself apart from its brethren by manufacturing exceptional olive oil and packaging it in one of several creative bottles, including one that looks like a drop of oil and another that tips on its side. In addition, spindle cappers handle almost any bottle type or shape including PET, PP, PVC, HDPE, LDPE, and glass through the use of specialized industrial equipment like this automatic spindle capping machine for sale. A limited edition pen-shaped bottle allows chefs to “sign” their plates and a perfume flacon provides a truly unique smelling and tasting experience.

Artisan Fresh Food

Most people associate Sam’s Club and Walmart with “low price,” not necessarily high quality. But the team behind the marketing campaign for the Artisan Fresh Food brand really knocked it out of the park by developing packaging for baked goods that looks like something you might find in a true boutique shop.

So far, it’s working. The combination of clever photography, and stunning packaging is selling Sam’s Club baked goods like crazy.

Briaura Artisan Foods

The creative team at Funnel, including Stacy Newgent Photography and Eric Kass, has created awesome packaging for Briaura Artisan Foods. The new clean style houses four baking mixes made with all-natural, non-GMO ingredients. It’s reminiscent of down-home country kitchen warmth – like a commercial version of what your grandma might have made on a Sunday afternoon.

Mast Brothers

Mast Brothers has an exciting chocolate line but, if you put chocolate in a boring wrapper, it looks like every other chocolate line out there. That’s why Mast Brothers Chocolate hired Nathan Warkentin to work with Rick Mast and Michael Mast to come up with packaging that’s “mood-inspired.” Moody chocolate – who knew?

Vigilant Eats Food Containers

When you buy something from Vigilant Eats, it almost feels like you’re getting something made specifically for you. The company makes a line of ready-to-prepare breakfast cereals, but the twist is that the packaging is very boutique.

Designer Eric Kass says that the design is “simple, clean, and powerful” and reflects the company’s vision of pure ingredients and the health-centric nature of the company.

The packaging features a 1960s-era canister of “survival biscuits” from a fall-out shelter in a very “scientific” style with clean lines and illustrations.

If you’re going to eat oats, why not do it in style?
