Mark Hamill : On How He Feels About The Last Jedi

In the past few weeks The Last Jedi, has caused a disturbance in the Force and the fans, myself included, have hit social media to complain and criticize the movie’s portrayal of Luke Skywalker, the hero that started it all. Actor Mark Hamill, openly criticize the movie. Now, Hamill is making himself clear how he feels about the eighth Star Wars film.

“I regret voicing my doubts & insecurities in public,” Hamill wrote on Twitter. “Creative differences are a common element of any project but usually remain private. All I wanted was to make good movie. I got more than that- [Director Rian Johnson] made an all-time GREAT one! #HumbledHamilll”

Mark was referring to a series of interviews he made in where he criticized Johnson’s vision for the franchise’s hero, Luke Skywalker.

“Luke was so optimistic and so hopeful and cheerful. Here he’s is in a very, very dark place,” Hamill told Spanish outlet SensaCine. “I said to Rian, I said, ‘Jedis don’t give up.’ Even if he had a problem, he would maybe take a year and try to regroup. But if he made a mistake, he would try and right that wrong, so right there, we had a fundamental difference.

“It’s not my story anymore,” Mark Hamill continued. “It’s somebody else’s story, and Rian needed me to be a certain way in order to make the ending effective.”

The comments rode a wave on social media as evidence that even Hamill, an iconic symbol of Star Wars, disliked the film. It provided evidence that The Last Jedi veered too far from what made this franchise great, it’s was like having Luke Skywalker himself disapproved of the latest episode in the series.

It’s possible, Mark Hamill realized that his negative comments could have repercussions, perhaps he may have received a strongly worded letter from Lucasfilm management asking him to desist, either way, I think it was smart as well as professional that he retract and correct his position for now.
