What’s the name of your company? What exactly does your company do, how do you help people?
My company name is NursePreneurs. I help nurses find their big idea for a business and take the first steps to get started building a business that they are proud of and that helps impact healthcare. I’ve helped nurses to start concierge nurse businesses, IV hydration, product launches and nurse coaching businesses.
What were the biggest challenges you have faced and how did you overcome them?
The biggest challenges have been getting nurses to believe in themselves. Many of my nurses get excited by the idea of pursuing a business, but are fearful to step out as the face of their brand. I encourage nurses to be the brand because it’s something that I believe is missing in healthcare. Nurses are a trusted authority but we have spent way too long in the background. Having our voices and opinions heard and respected is a good change, but it does take some getting used to.
What piece of advice do you wish someone had given you at the start of your career?
I wish I had known there were more options out there for me. I feel like if there had been role models and paths in various directions, I wouldn’t have spent so much time waiting for something to happen to me. I would have been more intentional about going out to find what it was I wanted.
Who are your biggest influences and people you admire and why?
I see a lot of successful women entrepreneurs out there and love that they are authentic and down to earth. Women like Jasmine Star, Sunny Lenarduzzi and Farideh Ceasar inspire me to keep pushing forward.
Name a person who helped you along the way?
There are so many people who helped me along the way, however, Bob Hess has been a long time mentor and friend to me. He has provided support and guidance over the years. He is a nurse who has had a distinguished career and even started his own business in retirement.
