until today. TCL Communication tweeted this week that it would stop releasing and selling BlackBerry-branded phones late this summer. TCL had signed a 2016 agreement to produce the iconic full-keyboard Android devices after BlackBerry said it would stop producing its own. At its peak, the BlackBerry controlled nearly half the U.S. smartphone market and a fifth globally, before touchscreens rules the world.
