Felon Jeremy Meeks: Bail Raised To $1 Million In His Arraignment
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A handsome mug shot of a Northern California man arrested on felony weapons charges has gone viral on social media, attracting more than 33,000 “likes” and drawing comments praising his high cheek bones, chiseled face and striking blue eyes.
The 30-year-old convicted felon was arraigned in court on June 20, and a judge raised his bail to $1 million.
Jeremy’s sexy mug shot has been dominating the Internet for the past couple days, again remember he WAS arrested on felony weapons charges on June 18.
Jeremy Meeks, who was arrested on June 18 on five felony weapon charges, one gang charge, and one misdemeanor charge for resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer, had his first court date on June 20. And while he might be making women across the country swoon, the judge did not seem quite as taken with the smooth criminal’s good looks.
According to Officer Joseph Silva, a spokesman for the Stockton Police Department.
Silva declined to say what Meeks was previously convicted of, saying the department does not routinely release information about a suspect’s criminal history.
No previous arrest photo has garnered so much positive attention since the department set up the Facebook page in March 2012, Silva told The Associated Press.
“I have not seen that many likes for a photo before,” he said.
News10 in Stockton scored a jailhouse interview with Meeks, who said he “appreciates” all the attention, “but I want them to know that this is really not me. I’m not some kingpin.”
His sister tells TMZ that he’s no longer the ne’er-do-well that got locked up.
She said his gang-affiliated past requires him to carry weapons to protect himself and that he’s been an active Christian for seven years.
Meeks’ mom purportedly set up a GoFundMe page to help raise the $25,000 needed to help secure her son’s $900,000 bail.
MFL was unable to verify that the page was set up by Meeks’ mother, Katherine Angier or anyone connected with Meeks.
The GoFundMe page reads in part, “Please help. My son was taken into custody on his way to work,” the page’s author writes. “He is a working man with a son. He is being stereotyped due to old tatoos[sic].”
In addition to his felony weapons charges, Jeremy was also charged with a misdemeanor at the time of his arrest, for resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer.
Meeks, has a felony conviction and a two year state prison sentence stemming from a 2002 conviction for grand theft from a person (a lesser offense to a robbery) out of Solano County. His documented gang affiliation with Northside Gangster Crips forms the foundation for the gang allegations in the complaint.
