The Title of Your Book?

Pivotry: The Art of Shifting

Why did you write the book?

As a coach, I would often share my experiences and for years, my clients would tell me that I had to write a book… and so I did.

I wrote this in hopes of inspiring anyone to get out of their own way and to reframe challenges into teaching moments. I wanted to share my personal experiences and those of other women, and how we were able to pivot away from an unpleasant situation, to make space for a new experience.

What was your biggest surprise or aha moment when writing your book?

The aha moment while writing the book was how much I had overcome, and was able to feel pride for all of it.

Who is your ideal audience for the book?

I think anyone who would like to make a change or is feeling stuck. Women, entrepreneurs, single parents and anyone else who feels like they need some encouragement to make big bold moves.

Tell us, how do you deal with fear?

I sift thru my feelings and process whatever it is that I am feeling. And then I try to look at it from a distance and more objectively. Writing out my fears helps me  gain clarity on what is real and what is not. And usually, our fears are self-imposed or part of an old story line that we have just gotten used to or comfortable with.

Tell us, how do you deal with rejection?

Like every human, the ego gets bruised and it doesn’t feel good. But once I have acknowledged that bit, I know that if something wasn’t meant for you, it wasn’t supposed to happen. There’s always something bigger and better waiting for us, when we are ready to receive it. This took me a long time to learn – the art of receiving.

Tell us two concepts or ideas you want the reader to takeaway?

1 – The art of receiving is something that truly resonates with me because it was one of the hardest things I had to learn. I didn’t realize that by allowing ourselves to receive, we were continuing the cycle of goodness. By receiving from others, we are also being gracious to the giver. There’s a lot to this concept and goes way deeper than giving and receiving. It goes into self-worth and deserving, realizing that until we love ourselves, then and only then, can we truly receive.

2 – Living in gratitude has changed my life. I start each day thinking about 5 things that I’m grateful for and also before going to bed. But even deeper than gratitude is appreciation. When we truly appreciate things or people, there’s a deeper connection and one that is much more magical.

Name one of the biggest challenges you have faced writing your book and how did you overcome it?

I was really nervous about putting my story out there, and what people would think of me. But it was the exact opposite of my fears, people who have read the book were inspired by my raw honesty. I could have been a lot juicier in terms of the details, but living in Washington DC, I had to be careful – this is a very small town… so didn’t need to fully throw anyone under the bus.

What’s a personal self-talk, mantra, affirmation, or self-belief that contributes to your success?

I write my affirmations everyday, and change them depending on what I’m going thru.   I learned this version from Bob Proctor – I am so happy and grateful that….These affirmations are essential to my growth. I write about something in the present tense, as if it has already happened, and truly connect with those feelings. That’s where the magic is!
