Southern California and traffic are synonymous in the minds of locals and the rest of the country. In fact, Los Angeles received the worst ranking for roadway congestion in the country from the GPS-device maker TomTom, reported Time. Motorists here who have a half-hour commute spend an average of 90 hours a year stuck in traffic. Drivers must endure a 40-minute delay per every hour driven during peak commuting times—and congestion is getting worse, rising 2 percentage points from 2012 to 2013. In a comparison of 63 cities across the Americas, Los Angeles ranked the fourth worst. Commute times throughout the area, however, vary.
