Have You Always Wanted to Write a Book? Four Steps to Achieving Your Dream.

Maybe you’ve wanted to write about your life. Or you have wanted to share your business experience. Or maybe you have the next Game of Thrones unfolding in your mind!

You are in excellent company: 81% of people in the US want to write a book.

At a totally unscientific guess, I’m going to say that I think that MAYBE 10% of those 81% actually write that book they so wanted to.

Maya Angelou said, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

So—how do you beat the odds and become one of the people who fulfill their writing dream?

Writing seems magical to many of us who love reading or watching well-written TV shows or movies or whose lives and businesses have been changed by the inspirational stories of a leader.

And it IS magical.

But it is also a craft, which means that it requires some old-fashioned discipline and routine.

Here are some steps to get your writing going—and keep it going:

Step 1: Create a space. This can be an office—or it can be a section of a table that is just for writing. There is something very powerful about having committed space to writing—and it doesn’t have to be big.

Step 2: Create a routine. This is often writing before you do anything else. That is the surest way to get it done. Remember: if you write ONE page a day, you will have a book by the end of the year.

I have a special calendar for you to mark those times on:[THE FOLLOWING IS CODE FOR A BUTTON TO GET THE FREE CALENDAR—PLEASE ENTER IN THE TEXT EDITOR AND EDIT OUT THIS LINE OF RED]

Step 3: Create a social commitment. Agree with a friend of a coach that you are going to write a certain number of pages a day. This is a positive use of peer pressure.

Step 4: Create a writing vision. See yourself in the world as a writer—go to the bookstore where you will be signing your book, think about questions people are going to ask you about it, imagine the place on the shelf where your book will be.

Writing is a dream for many of us. Taking a few small steps toward creating a routine will make sure it is a dream come true.
