If you’ve recently sold a company or come into a substantial amount of money, it can be difficult to know how to invest your capital. You don’t want to leave it sitting in the bank for too long, or you might miss out on some fantastic opportunities. While you could opt for a safe or way of using your money to make a profit, sometimes it’s best to think outside the box and try something different. Most people don’t realize it, but it is entirely possible and legal to start a town of your own. Just for fun, we’re going to tell you how to do it.
While that isn’t exactly a fast way of earning money, it’s guaranteed to be fun.
Buy or acquire land
Before you do anything else, you’ll need to obtain some suitably sized land for your new town. People who’ve done that in the past found that purchasing land with homes already built was the cheapest option. However, you could always get something empty and arrange all the construction work yourself. Just bear in mind that for a town of around twenty homes, building work is going to cost a minimum of $1,800,000. To be honest, the price will almost certainly be a little higher than that by the time the properties are ready to be inhabited.
Register your town
Depending on where you live in the world, you will have to do different things to register your town. In the UK and US, all you have to do is get in touch with the local authority and make an application. Sometimes councils are more likely to accept your application if there are already people living in the area and they all agree on the details. For that reason, you may need to populate the homes on your land before making contact with them. There will be many fees involved in this process, and so you’ll require the help of a well-trained and experienced lawyer.
Decide on road names
One of the coolest perks to having a custom town is that you get to change the road names in most instances. You should consult your residents and find out which names seem most appealing to them. Once you’ve made your final decisions, you’ll need to find a specialist company to produce all the signs. Thankfully, there are many of them online at the moment, and so you won’t have to look far to get a good deal. That said; the amount you spend on road signs in the least of your concerns.
Start your town’s council
The people living in your town will want to have a say in what goes on. Considering that, you should start a democratic council and allow them to input ideas. Some of your residents may wish to become members of the new council. In which case, you will want to organize elections. All that can be incredibly fun, and it’s one of the best parts of having a custom town.
So there you have it guys. Now you know how to start a small town of your own, perhaps you might consider having a go in the near future. Sure, you’re going to need millions, but we know some of you have that much.
Have fun!
