To run a successful business, you need to work hard and have excellent planning and organisational skills. As well as having a well-thought out business plan in place.

Many new business owners believe that as soon as they launch their company they will start making money. But, making money and building a successful business is more complicated than simply opening your doors.

To grow your business into a successful company, it vital that you take the time to plan out the necessary steps you need to take, to achieve success.

For our guide to growing a successful business, have a read of this:

  1. Be organised

To be a successful business owner, it is crucial that you are organised. By being organised, you will be able to keep on top of everything and get things done as quickly and efficiently as possible.

To ensure that you keep on top of your daily, weekly and monthly tasks, create a tick list of everything that needs to be done – tick things off as you go. To help you prioritise important tasks, number each item on your list in order of priority – that way you can complete the more important tasks first. Creating a tick list, will not only ensure that you don’t forget to do anything, it will also teach how to properly prioritise and manage your time.

Make sure that your office space is organised and in good order. Use filing cabinets and folders to keep your office clear and orderly.

  1. Keep records

Keeping detailed business records is essential, as it allows you to monitor where the business stands and what the potential problems could be.

Make sure to keep records of everything, from sales targets and finances to goals and strategies. By keeping records of everything, if there are obstacles threatening the success of the company, you will be aware of them and will have time to find ways to overcome them.

  1. Know your competition

Analyse your competition so that you know how their business works, what they do differently to you and what they do the same as you.

If there are things that your competition do or offer that is better that what you offer, take the time to find out more. Don’t be afraid to learn from your competitors and take on some of their ideas – perhaps your competitors have ideas you could implement in your business?

  1. Take calculated risks

A key factor to being successful is taking calculated risks.

But, before taking any risks, make sure to ask yourself “What is the worst that could happen?”. If you can answer this and know what the worst case scenario would be, then it is okay to take calculated risks to grow your business.

  1. Be creative

Creativity is key for creating a successful business. It is essential that you are always thinking of new ways to improve your business and make it stand out from your competitors.

As a new business owner, recognise that you don’t know everything and that sometimes you may need a little help. If you struggle for ideas, speak to friends, relatives and your business mentor, if you have one. Remember, sometimes the best ideas come from unexpected places.

  1. Stay focused and motivated

Even if things are not going as well as you would like, make sure that you stay focused and keep motivated. It is easy to feel like a failure when your business doesn’t grow as quickly as you would like it to, but it is important to remember that it takes time to get your name out there.

Make sure that whatever happens, you still keep working and keeping on top of things. Instead of thinking that your business is failing, change your mindset. If things aren’t going well just yet, give it time – think of it like this, the more work you put in, the bigger rewards you will see.

  1. Outsource

To save yourself time, effort and money, outsource as much work as possible to skilled but cost-effective, external companies. Outsourcing is an amazing way to accomplish your business goals more quickly, without having to hire and pay in-office staff to help.

With thousands of outsourcing companies available, you can outsource anything. From your finances and staff payroll system to advertising and content creation. You can also hire a professional team, like message-direct to deal with your correspondence. Acting as a virtual receptionist, answering phone calls and taking messages.

  1. Provide excellent customer service

Don’t forget how important it is to treat your customers well and provide them with excellent customer service. If you show your customers that you care, by providing good customer service, they will be more likely to use your services again, instead of going to your competitor.

To find out how your customers feel about your customer service, ask each customer if they would be happy to fill in a customer service feedback form. This will allow you to locate any problem areas, and work with staff to address the issues.

  1. Set goals and follow a plan

An important part of growing your business comes from setting goals and following a plan. Use your business plan to work out your short term and long term goals, and what you will need to do to meet them.

Plan out monthly, weekly and daily goals and targets for you to meet. Make sure that you set a deadline on each goal – goals without deadlines tend not to be successful. You will find it easier to work harder if you have something to aim for.

10. Consistency is key

Being consistent is a key factor in making money and being successful in the business sector. To make a success of your business, you need to consistently do the same things day in and day out, and keep going even after you see results.

Being consistent will help to create important long-term habits that will help you to build up a successful and reliable business.
