$7 MILLION for an illegal government giveaway of taxpayer money?
The Goldwater Institute is challenging this crony scheme from the city of Phoenix, and on Friday, June 23, at 1:30 pm, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Dewain Fox will hear oral arguments virtually in Paulin v. City of Phoenix.
Case details:
- The city of Phoenix has devised a property tax shell game to benefit a private real estate developer’s new high-rise in the heart of downtown Phoenix.
- City officials want to allow real estate developer Hubbard Street Group to pay no property taxes on its Hubbard Project for eight years, while other Arizona taxpayers—in Phoenix and beyond—shoulder the difference. Goldwater is suing the city on behalf of hardworking taxpayers to put a stop to this scheme.
“Arizona courts have been clear time and again: taxpayer dollars are to be put to public use, not to benefit private, special interests,” says Goldwater Institute Vice President for Litigation Jon Riches.
