U-Haul is the latest employer looking to build a nicotine-free workforce. The Arizona-based company said it will not interview nor hire nicotine users starting Feb. 1. Arizona is among several states that allow employers to make hiring decisions based on smoking. The policies are becoming more common as companies look to cut health care costs. The city of Dayton, Ohio, stopped hiring nicotine users on July 15, for example. Some health care providers, such as CHI Memorial in Tennessee, also impose nicotine bans.
