Who are your biggest influences and people you admire and why?

My co-founder requires that I list him as a big influence in any media correspondence 🙂

Beth Comstock, my former boss and GE’s first female vice chair, looked at the world in a new way. She really inspired me because she showed that big companies can think differently.

Name a person who helped you along the way?

Carey Smith, the founder and CEO of Big Ass Fans, trusted me with transitioning the business to a new owner. With that trust came a great deal of responsibility, and it really helped prepare me for the current journey.

What do you see as your greatest success in life, so far?

Being a father has been my greatest success so far. They have a diverse range of interests and give me confidence that the next generation will accomplish amazing things.

What book would you recommend and why?

How to Cook Everything book by Mark BittmanHow to Cook Everything

Most business books, including my own, talk about being successful and different methods for achievement. Preparing food actually forces you to plan, strategize, and cook a meal. You instantly determine whether or not you were successful, and it helps you critically think about how to solve something. Plus, I just really love to cook

 

What’s a personal self-talk, mantra, affirmation or self-belief that contributes to your success?

1) Be kind.
2) Allow for diversity of thought.
3) Assume noble intent.
