Tell us your name and a little about yourself.
Allison De Paoli – Yankee transplanted to Texas, Urbanite, Insurance Whisperer. All around girly girl.
Why did you become an entrepreneur in the first place?
I come from a family of entrepreneurs – grandfather, uncles, dad – we have had large businesses and small businesses. I am not sure I ever knew anything else.. It was always just… we work for ourselves.
As an entrepreneur, how do you deal with fear or rejection?
I used to box for exercise and the men in the dojo would call me the warrior girl. I try to remember that! And, I am human. Sometimes I just hide… but not for very long.
What’s the name of your company? What exactly does your company do, how do you help people?
My company helps employers add control and predictability back into their healthcare spend. Sounds very boring.. I know. And it really isn’t. It is very satisfying to help an employer control this expense – often the largest expense after payroll – and offer something valuable to their employees and get back to growing their business.
What were the biggest challenges you have faced and how did you overcome them?
I am not a natural salesperson, that is the hardest part for me. Everyday. And, I am at the forefront of my industry and speak a very different message than most insurance advisors. Sometimes it takes a time or two to be heard.
What piece of advice do you wish someone had given you at the start of your career?
Always add extra margin into your day. It is so simple and SO HARD. And incredibly effective.
