Was there a specific turning point when you realized your business was moving to the next level?: Marquee client in entertainment industry chose our firm over Big 4 CPA to lead turnaround of his portfolio of more than 30 companies that required me to take interim CFO role for 18 months, replace essentially the entire accounting department, temporarily staff teams of specialists to coordinate the reconstruction financial records,to reorganize two non-performing divisions and to coordinate a friendly bankruptcy to avoid the consequences of debt forgiveness.
What processes or procedures have you implemented that have helped grow your company?:
1. Web enabled consultant and candidate tracking and skills managment system
2. Proprietary practice development strategy tied to an online Salesforce CRM with dashboard
What is most rewarding about running your business?: I enjoy the challenge and creativity required to keep a professional services business that can produce a competitive advantage to its clients.
I also enjoy the fulfillment in providing employment opportunities for financial and accounting personnel who 1)have worked in school to learn and accomplish; and, 2) in the work place to build a reputation of competency and integrity
What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?: consulting and recruiting are competitive industries that require creativity and hard work and a little luck to consistently stand out. I am 6’10” tall which of course helps out on the standing out.
If you were starting over today, what would you do differently?: I probably would have chosen to grow the firm more quickly in the early years.
