Married men earn significantly more than others, including married women, unmarried men, and unmarried women. The Federal Reserve Banks of St. Louis surveyed people employed in 2016 with at least a high school diploma and found that, for women, “working life still presents a seemingly inevitable loss of parity,” according to Bloomberg. Perhaps surprisingly, unmarried men earn as much, or little, as women. The Fed noted that men who make more may be more likely to marry — not earn more because they do.
