We received a call from a termite control company in TX. They wanted a quote on a 300 gallon termite spray trailer. After collecting the necessary data, we provided a quote.
The owner told us that he liked us but that freight made our quote more expensive than a local quote he received. I asked what was in the local quote. It turns out that there were two problems (at least).
The local quote used 1/2″ hose (we used 5/8″). He could not get the volume out of 1/2″ hose he needed for termite pretreats. The local quote specified a Hypro D30 diaphragm pump, which is a great pump. However, in this case, it is inappropriate.
The client told us that jet agitation while spraying is critical to his application. The D30 pump is too small to agitate the 300 gallon tank, while concurrently spraying termiticide. The client didn’t know this and the local vendor didn’t tell him.
To save $250, the client almost bought a termite spray rig that would not have done the job he needed and with which he would have been unhappy from day one. Make sure you know what you are getting and who are you are dealing with.
