Donald Trump said he would “love” to run against Barack Obama should he seek a third term in the White House.

The president said running against the former president “would be a good one”, while signing executive orders in the Oval Office on Monday night.

Mr Trump, who is 78, has not ruled out a third term, which is currently prohibited by the Constitution.

But the president told NBC on Sunday that “there are methods” that could allow him to mount a challenge for a third presidency.

Asked by reporters if Mr Obama could also seek a third term and run against Mr Trump, the president replied: “I love that, that would be a good one. I’d like that.

“I never looked into it. They do say there’s a way you can do it. But I don’t know about that.”

He continued: “I have not looked into it. I want to do a fantastic job. We have four years, just about almost close to four years, and some time is flying, but it’s still close to four years, and we’re getting a lot of credit for having done a great job in the first almost 100 days.”

The 22nd Amendment, added to the Constitution in 1951 after Franklin D Roosevelt was elected four times in a row, says: “No person shall be elected to the office of the president more than twice.”

Flanked by musician Kid Rock, who was wearing a red, white and blue bedazzled ensemble, Mr Trump signed an executive order targeting ticket scalping – reselling tickets for admission to events, usually at inflated prices – on Monday.

The order directs the Federal Trade Commission to work with the attorney general to ensure competitive laws are enforced.

“I want the fans to have fair ticket prices,” said Kid Rock, who referred to bad actors who exponentially raise ticket prices.

“There’s plenty of money to go around. Nobody’s going to lose here.”

‘Let them both be happy’

Meanwhile, Mr Trump said golf star Tiger Woods, 49, personally informed him that he had begun dating Vanessa Trump, the 47-year-old ex-wife of his son Donald Trump Jr.

“I played golf with him a couple of times over the last month, and he’s a fantastic guy, a fantastic athlete, and he told me about it, and I said, ‘Tiger, that’s good’.

“I’m very happy for both. I just let them both be happy. Let them both be happy. They’re both great.”

Woods has never overtly declared his political leanings, but ties with various Trump relatives in recent months have become impossible to miss.

He has been involved in a number of relationships since being divorced by Elin – the mother of his two children.
