A report in Business Insider claims that the e-retail giant plants fake “dummy” packages to test driver integrity. The company reportedly sends out empty deliveries that give drivers an error message before being delivered. The driver has the option to report the item, return it, or, in theory, steal the package, believing it to be untraceable. Amazon does not report how many packages it loses to theft each year, Business Insider reports. The company has created new programs like Amazon Key, as well as lockers, to combat theft related to package delivery at homes and in buildings.
