Burger King Deletes IWD Tweet

Burger King U.K. set social media on fire Monday when it tweeted, “Women belong in the kitchen.” Following backlash, the fast food giant deleted the post, which was part of a multi-thread share, and took to Twitter with an apology: “We hear you. We got our initial tweet wrong and we’re sorry.” The original tweet coincided with International Women’s Day on Monday and was part of an ad campaign aimed at bringing awareness to a lack of female chefs. The debacle highlights the often treacherous waters brands face when they are overeager to jump on cultural moments.
