Decluttering and Staging Your Home

Decluttering and Staging Your Home

You can see it now, that big sign with the words “FOR SALE” in your front yard. And you can even imagine the SOLD sign on top of that. You are ready to sell. But is your house? When it’s time to sell your house, whether through a home buying service, a realtor or yourself, you want to get the most for money you can, and that means have it ready before it goes on the market.

If you are choosing to go through a home buying service, you won’t have to do as much work to get it ready to sell. They’ll buy it based on your location, the condition of the home and some other factors. However, you still may want to get it in top condition to get more money.

If you are selling it yourself or through a realtor, on the other hand, you can do a few more things to get in in top selling condition. You hear about staging and decluttering, these are some of the most important things you can do. Sure, a brand new kitchen is fabulous, but not everyone can do that. You can stage and declutter, though, no matter your budget. Here are some great tips on doing just that.

Declutter

This is one of the top things you can do in selling your home. Get the clutter out. This goes for inside and out. From the garage to the master bedroom closets, get the clutter out. When a potential home buyer sees your stuff spilling gout form every drawer and closet and corner, thy will probably think that your house doesn’t have enough space. Whether you have to sell, store of give away, get the clutter out. Remember, buyers will snoop. They will open closets and drawers, even your refrigerator. The neater and tidier everything can be, the better.

This also goes for things around your house. If you home office, clean up your space. File papers and organize the desk. In your kitchen, make sure there is spot for everything. If your kids do homework on the dining room table, make sure they clean it up each night. If you have tables full of knickknacks and photos, store them for the time being. Smooth, clean pen spaces are what sells.

Make it Inviting

When potential buyers step in to your home, you want to wow them. Warm and homey scents can do this. Whereas you don’t want clutter, you do want warmth. The old tried and true freshly baked cookie scent still works. If you can’t bake cookies, plug in some clean smelling air fresheners or light a candle. Good scents to use are vanilla and lavender – nothing too strong or overwhelming. Clean smells are important, and they can help cover any pet odors that may be lingering around.

Brighten up where you can. If your dog has scratched the trim around the front door, give it a new coat of paint. Buy some fresh new towels to hang in the spare bathroom. Have fresh flowers placed around your home for warmth and cheer.

Stage It

Maybe you have a great eclectic style, but it could be too bold for the average buyer. Thumb through magazines or Pinterest and see how you can stage your home to appeal to anyone’s tastes. It’s a good idea to neutralize as much as you can. You may want to include some modern dining room furniture and swap your bold comforter and pillows for a soft neutral while your house is on the market, the same for the pillows on your sofa. Some area rugs in soft, neutral tones will help as well.

Along these lines, depersonalize your home as well. If you have your initial hanging on your front door, replace it with a standard wreath. If your family portrait hangs above the fireplace – replace it. You want buyers to envision their own initial, their family portrait and their family in this home.

You can also upgrade your landscape, which can be appealing to your buyers. You may hire an asphalt paving service to install a concrete pathway. You may also hire a residential and commercial tree trimming service to maintain the overall look of your trees and garden. If you are thinking about having a kitchen remodeling project to boost the sale of your home, then you might want to start upgrading the kitchen cabinets and look for White Quartz for sale for your new countertops! Read the pros of built in wine coolers and decide if it is a worthy addition to your kitchen.

Selling a house takes work. That’s why many people turn to a house buying business. But if you’re doing it yourself, make sure you get it ready to sell before putting into on the market. You’ll save yourself lots of time and stress if it’s in prime shape to show as soon as that for sale sign is in the yard. Good luck!
