The growing pains experienced by the buzzy online-only therapy app Talkspace speak to the perils of the “app-ification of mental health care,” The New York Times writes. Talkspace argues that it’s serving an increasingly important need at a time of crisis: improving the access and affordability of therapy and psychiatry. But its detractors claim that its entrepreneurialism, its embrace of typically tech industry growth strategies — and the steps that it’s willing to take for it to succeed — can obstruct its more altruistic ambitions.
