U.S. Teens Ditching Cars

According to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. teens aren’t rushing out to get their driving license, let alone buying a car. In 2017, only 25% of 16-year-olds had their license, compared to 50% in 1983. The rising cost of a car plays a big part, with a new vehicle costing approximately $32,544 in 2018, compared to $25,409 in 2008, per analysis cited by the Journal. Many Generation Zers have the option of either staying home and “hanging out” with friends, or jumping in an Uber or Lyft to meet them.
